What is chicken potpie?

A potpie is a type of savory pie, typically made with meat and vegetables stewed in a thick gravy or sauce then poured into a pastry shell or pie dish. The dish is then baked and served hot. Potpies come in many varieties, but most commonly include poultry such as chicken or turkey, and vegetables such as carrots, peas, and potatoes.

Variations of the dish, including vegetarian and gluten-free options

There are many variations of the classic chicken potpie recipe, including vegetarian and gluten-free versions. For a vegetarian potpie, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth, and substitute chickpeas or black beans for the chicken. You can also use a store-bought pie crust, or make your own with a mix of flour and vegetable shortening. If you need a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free pie crust mix, or make your own dough with rice flour, potato starch, and tapioca flour.
